Bill Moggridge’s principles of interaction design for GUIs

Dimensions of interaction design:

• 1D: words communicate information easily to the end user.

• 2D: visual representations to be used in moderation

• 3D: physical objects or space refers to the physical hardware

• 4D: time is the length that the user interacts with the first 3 dimensions.

• 5D: behaviour - emotions and reactions when user interacts with system

Problem= Athletes need to be fit 100% of the time to train well and lose money/ lose coach money/ lose stakeholders money if they're injured.

Solution= Tech that detects injury early, tech that prevents injury and identifies warning signs

Healthcare is usually traditional face-to-face diagnosis but a trend is emerging into more remote diagnosis through interaction design.

Current healthcare devices for patients can do:

• diagnosis

• monitoring

• treatment/management: tele health, telecare

What digital sports-tech solutions are in the market for sports? what functionality?

Mostly health tracking wearables such as fitbits and apple watches.

What technologies exist/are emerging/can be adapted to help track data in your selected sport?

These mostly appear in the form of sensors that track and measure a boxer’s speed, punch force and in some cases technique whether it be for fitness, fun or competition. The founder of Corner, a company that produces wearable boxing tech, states that while their product can’t replace a coach, it ‘offers an extra pair of eyes’ to fighters (taken from Research Report).

For your MODBOX designs: what can you track? What health aspect can be supported? What data can be shared/with whom?

-Equipment. E.g. Gloves/, protection

-Footwear, e.g. Training footwear/sport specific footwear

-Facilities, e.g. Training equipment/climate control

-Computers, e.g. Processing of data/storage of information

-Software, e.g. Technique analysis/individual performance monitoring (taken from Research Report).

These elements can all be adapted to utilise interactive tech. The data shared could be: the tracking of vital signs (heart rate, oxygen level, muscle fatigue etc), tracking of skill progression (correct form, footwork, blocking) and warning signs of injury (alerting coach).
