We brainstormed as a group and decided our design direction would be focused around skill development in terms of MODBOX specific skills. The specific skills and aspects of MODBOX that I chose to explore was surrounding footwork/ stance and community engagement (viewing performance etc).

My concepts at this point are:

  • Vest worn by both with sensors that identify positioning in the ring, footwork, lights up when punches are landed and tracks body heat? A live replay is displayed on a screen for all viewers to get involved. Maybe the coach could pinpoint things easier and tell viewers whats going on, replaying the footage would be easier to pick up incorrect technique etc.

  • Mat with built in LEDs and pressure sensors that has a rolling display (Guitar Hero) or a Twister-like mat that can be used by two/four people at once. of spaces where the user should place their foot for different stances. Maybe its just a sheet of tech that can be placed over mats (to integrate with existing equipment).

  • Wearable ankle brace that tracks how often the feet are being moved and maybe how much they move around the ring? Proximity sensors could be placed around an area to see if they’re utlising the correct technique of footwork. Maybe this could be relayed as a visual on a screen for the coach to review. (Paint rolling type of visual to see the patterns of footwork etc)

  • Maybe wearable hand sensors could be worn by a big group of people in the program and a game could be played where you have to try and find your ‘match’ so you go around trying to tap people and once you find the matching sensor it beeps and the first person to do that wins.
